Ducati Sport Classic 1000 – A retro bike, sent from the past, to remind us how to ride, and boy, does she know how to ride.
Well, any Ducati fan will have noticed that Ducati bikes are in almost every movie going at the moment. The Terminator Salvation film contains a heavily modified Ducati Hypermotard, although, it’s unrecognisable. It seems to stem from the beautiful Ducati 996 which was used in The Matrix. The new Wall Street movie “Money Never Sleeps” sees Shia Labeouf, hurtling through New York on a beautiful Ducati Street Fighter.
Ducati Sport Classic 1000 – The Motorcycle in Tron!
This article however, is all about the Ducati Sport Classic 1000 which features in the recent remake of the 1982, Tron movie. Of course, the Ducati Sport Classic 1000 does not replace the famous Tron Light cycle, but it does give it a run for it’s money as far as cool-factor goes.
The motorbike in the new Tron movie, is strange because effectively, it is a new “old” bike, for Ducati fans who want to relive the sultry days of Ducati’s 1970’s motorcycle design. Ducati have basically, tarted up a Ducati Monster template, or dressed it down, which ever way you decide to look at, to make the Ducati Sport Classic 1000, look like a classic, when really, it’s brand spanking new….but where as many motorcycle websites disapprove of this approach, at QNBIKES, we ask ourselves “Why the F*c* not?” It’s still an awsome bike, even if it is “trying” to be something it’s not.
It strikes me that the new Tron Light Cycle, is a new take on an old bike. The new version is trying to capture some of the retro design, which was a by product of them trying to create an “ultra modern” bike back in the 80’s. The originial Ducati Sport Classic 1000 was trying to be futuristic, where as the new one is trying to capture the feel of the old bike, trying to be like a modern bike…….does this make any sense what so ever? The Ducati Sport Classic 1000 is an attempt to make a “new” version of an old bike, which coincidently was desperately trying to be modern…the irony.
“It stands out, admittedly because it’s so darn strange….”
Here at QNBIKES, we don’t really care whether the new Ducati Sport Classic 1000 in any way resembles the 1970’s designed bikes, we only care if we like it on it’s own merit and guess what……we do. OK, so we are basically the biggest Ducati fans you will ever meet, so perhaps we would like anything that Ducati banged together in an afternoon, but the truth is, the Ducati Sport Classic 1000 is plain cool. It stands out, admittedly because it’s so darn strange, but also because it’s SO different from the rest of the Ducati family.
Personally, I would never buy a Ducati Sport Classic 1000 over a Ducati Monster, or Ducati Hyper Motard for that matter, but lets be honest. The people who are going to be buying this bike, will have a garage full of Ducatis and an array of other QNBIKES, so it’s not really a case of “If I could have any ONE bike in the world, what would I choose?” It’s more like….
“hmmmm…..I really love the new Ducati Sport Classic 1000, I must remember to ask Jeffrey to order me one for the garage.”
Money in the bank or not, I would love to own a bike as stylish and individual as the Ducati Sport Classic 1000, or a Tron Light Cycle for that matter!
